No matter how hard we work on our financial goals, sticking to our budgets and prioritising our financial responsibilities, sometimes expenses happen or bills pop out of the blue when we least expect it. No one is completely immune from this and when these things happen, it comes as a test to our mental and emotional resilience, as well as our financial strength.
One time in particular I distinctlyremember this happening to me. One cold winter weekend, my beloved dog, Giuseppe suddenly got sick in the middle of the night when he was only 6 months old, I was beside myself at the emergency vet, in tears begging the vets to “help my puppy”. They couldn’t work out what was wrong with him and required expensive tests to be done, at a cost of $3,500. (I didn’t have pet insurance at the time but do now). I didn’t care about the money, I just wanted to do anything and everything to make my dog happy and healthy again.
Rocco was only a few weeks old when this happened and I had only just paid the vet bill and then the following weekend one of the pipes in my backyard got blocked on one of those weekends where it rained literally non-stop, flooding my backyard. The plumbers had to dig up my backyard to fix it and cost another $3,500 to fix it. I couldn’t believe my luck.
It felt like a huge financial blow and it was. However I survived financially (and so did Giuseppe), but it made me realise that no one is financially invincible and when life throws us a curve ball, we need to learn how to not just get through the challenge, but learn and grow and become smarter and be proactive.
So with great pleasure, I made this video for you on how to get back on track financially when we hit rough seas. Inspired by and actually sponsored by and a collaboration with Speckle.
