3 Ways To Stay Active On A Budget

The current Sydney lockdowns mean indoor gyms have ceased operation across this great city. However, don’t fret, you can still stay active and work out effectively even without going to the gym!  Here are my top tips to get fit during the lockdown without breaking the bank!

  1. Outdoor gym facilities

There are designated areas with publicly accessible, outdoor gyms. Here are some of the most highly rated and effective facilities! It’s a great way to get fresh air, whilst maintaining your regular exercise routine with professional gym equipment. 

Of course, restrictions such as social distancing and the maximum number of people allowed within a vicinity, must be abided by.

2. Get creative and use public infrastructure as exercise props

However, beyond traditional gym equipment, you can also think outside the box and look at how certain public infrastructure and equipment (within reason) can be used to assist your fitness journey. This fitness couple used certain elements of a children’s playground such as monkey bars and arm grips for pull ups and leg raises. They also utilised outdoor building pillars to assist with pistol squats, chin ups and ring holds. 

With the pandemic roaring  we have to be extra careful of contact with public infrastructure. However, if you sanitise your hand and public areas you come into contact with beforehand, this tip could be very handy!

3. Home exercise routines right at your finger tips

In just a few clicks, you can make your way into a sea of workout videos on YouTube, all by searching “work out” or a particular work out that you are interested in. It’s a chance to have an expert guide you through workouts from the comfort of your own home. Some of my favourites are Sydney Cummings and Yoga with Adriene. Sydney Cummings posts new workout videos all day giving you options and a challenge! Yoga with Adriene regularly posts new yoga videos to help with your stress, flexibility, and more.  

Taking time to take care of our health is important, and when money and space is limited, this can be stressful. These are some ways you can be frugal and still remain active. And remember, don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t replicate your exact workout! Think of this as a temporary shift and a great way to look at altering your existing routine. Relax, take a deep breath and be grateful for all that you have.
