Recently I have felt like I have hit a bit of a brick wall and I am treading water, not going anywhere. I have this quiet underling tension within myself that I am not using my brain to the fullest of it’s capability. And it is frustrating to say the least. Deep down I know that I need to be feeding my mind with more knowledge and new information to move forward again.
The idea of going back to university and doing a Masters or another degree just doesn’t excite me. Sitting in a lecture hall when I know that I thrive learning from hands on experience and training.
Also, working for myself, juggling Rocco and the dogs with modern day pressures, I am realistic with myself that getting to a classroom on time, let alone sticking to a timetable is not realistic for me.
So initially I parked the idea of enrolling into a 3 year course, until a friend mentioned to me the idea of doing a TAFE course. She explained that TAFE NSW offers heaps of online courses, which can also be done full time or part time.
Intrigued, I jumped on the TAFE NSW website, where I fell into a vortex of time, discovering all the different courses that they offered. The ideas and opportunities were limitless.
Before I knew it, 2 hours had passed and I found courses that I would love to do but hadn’t even considered doing, because I didn’t know they even existed. I wish I had know about this years ago.
Also, TAFE NSW isn’t just for Australians…even international students are welcome to enrol in the courses. And it isn’t just certificate courses that they offer, but Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and these can help you get into university if you want to take your studies further. In fact TAFE NSW offer 10 different degree themselves.
So after looking at the business and finance courses, I actually found myself swimming in the creative courses area of their website and am considering doing a photography course later this year. I can’t wait.
Since making this decision, I have had a much needed injection of excitement again, knowing that I going to be learning new skills and experience that will help me feel like I am growing again. And growth is what helps make us feel alive and of value to the world.
So if you are looking at what might be your next educational adventure, have a look at the TAFE NSW website and see what courses trigger some interest and even excitement within you. And as they say…be ambitious…
